Sosnoskie, O'Brien named to All-ACC Academic Team

GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Atlantic Coast Conference announced its 2008 Academic Baseball Team on Friday, and two Hokies - sophomore Anthony Sosnoskie and senior Sean O'Brien - were selected to the squad.

Sosnoskie was named to the team for the second time, making him one of 17 players to have earned the honor on multiple occasions. He was also selected as a freshman in 2007. In 2008, the catcher from Front Royal, Va., batted .315 in 45 games, while adding six home runs, 15 doubles and 37 runs batted in.

O'Brien made the team for the first time after leading the team with a .332 batting average, 45 runs scored, 18 doubles, eight home runs and 40 RBI. The Chappaqua, N.Y., native also established career highs in walks (51), on-base percentage (.479) and slugging percentage (.550). He started all 55 games for the Hokies and made just two errors from his post at first base.

To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must have earned at least a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained at least a 3.00 cumulative average during his academic career.
