Green falls in quarterfinals at State Amateur

Virginia Tech golfer GarlandGreen lost a 22-hole marathon match in the quarterfinals at the 95th VirginiaState Golf Association's Amateur Championship at the 6,831 yards, par-71Kingsmill Resort & Spa’s River Course on Friday morning.

Therising sophomore from Tazewell lost to Lanto Griffin of Blacksburg in the 22-hole quarterfinal. He finishedtied for fourth in the match play segment Monday and Tuesday. He was the firstday leader with a five-under-par 66 and shot a 73 on Wednesday for a two-daytotal of 139. He won two matches on Thursday to advance to Friday’s morningquarterfinal match.
