GREENSBORO, N.C. - Virginia Tech senior attacker Kady McBrearty received All-Atlantic Coast Conference Team honors for the second year in a row, the conference office announced recently.
McBrearty led the Hokies in four statistical categories during the 2008 season, including points (60), goals (37), assists (23), and shots (84). The Alexandria, Va., native extended her 10-game point streak from the 2007 season to register at least one point in every game of the 2008 season, ending her career on a 29-game point streak.
McBrearty's successful four-year career moved her into nine of 10 offensive categories in Tech's record books. The co-captain is seventh in career goals (93), eighth in goals in a season (37), third in points (60) and assists in a season (23). McBrearty also is in a four-way tie for third place on the season assist list with 21 helpers in 2007.
Before this season, McBrearty held the third spot in career assists. Though the Hokies fell 10-9 to Louisville on March 21, McBrearty was credited with her 63rd career assist to move into first place. McBrearty now leads the Hokie program in career assists with 68 and her 161 career points ties for second place in the category.
The two-year starter set single-game school records with career highs in points (9) and assists (7) in a single game against Delaware during her sophomore year. McBrearty led the Hokies with a season-high eight points in a 16-15 triumph over Richmond this season, while locking up season single-game highs in goals (4) and assists (4).
McBrearty received second-team VaSID All-State honors in 2007 after leading the Hokies in points and assists. McBrearty became the first Hokie to be named to the All-ACC team last year, and remains as the only Tech player to receive such recognition.
