Fanning earns cross country honor

BLACKSBURG, Va. – Senior Tasmin Fanning followed up her historical performance at the NCAA Southeast Regional by receiving the ACC Women’s Cross Country Performer of the Week award, the conference announced on Tuesday.

Fanning became the first Hokie runner to win a regional meet, after topping the 231-athlete field with a time of 20:07.8 on Nov. 15. The 2007 cross country All-American earned her fourth all-region honor, the only Tech runner to accomplish the feat.

The victory also ensured the Charlottesville, Va., native a third consecutive trip to the NCAA Cross Country Championships, where she finished 12th out of 255 runners last year. The national meet will be held in Terre Haute, Ind., on Nov. 24. Results will be posted on hokiesports.com following the meet.
