Willoughby named VaSID Rookie of the Year

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - Three Virginia Tech volleyball players were named to the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) University Division all-state volleyball team. Freshman Felicia Willoughby collected her third rookie of the year honor this season, being named the top freshman in the state, while also being honored as a first-team selection. Senior Amanda Cloyd and sophomore Taylor Parrish were selected to the second team.

The VaSID team is selected by the sports information staffs from around the state of Virginia.

Willoughby, the AVCA East Region and ACC Freshman of the Year, led the Hokies with 1.51 blocks per game, finishing the season ahead of all ACC players and tied for 19th nationally. In collecting 172 total blocks this season, she broke Julie Neely's program record of 167, set in 1986. She also holds the top spot on Tech's freshman list for total blocks, in addition to the freshman and single-season record for block assists (143). Willoughby was named to the all-tournament teams at the Hawthorn Suites Hokie Invitational and the Panther Invitational to open the season.

Cloyd finished her career holding multiple defensive records. As the Hokies' first libero, Cloyd set Tech's single-season record for digs three straight seasons. She also became the first Hokie to ever record 600 digs in a season, recording 617 this year, and the first Tech player to record 2,000 digs throughout their career, breaking Heather Berglund's 1990-93 record of 1,710. The senior also holds the ACC record for career digs per game (4.77) and finished tied with Duke's Jenny Shull for the all-time dig record, with 2,200.

The honor is the second for Parrish, who was honored on the VaSID second team last year, as well. She led the Hokies with 406 kills this season and recorded 18 double-doubles.
