Hokie ClubBLACKSBURG, Va. - Virginia Tech has announced the promotion of men’s tennis assistant coach Jimmy Borendame to associate head coach. Borendame is in his seventh season as a collegiate coach and fifth at Virginia Tech. He helped the Hokies to a 16-9 record last season and a trip to the NCAA Championships for the second consecutive year as well as a No. 28 national ranking.
“Jimmy has been an important part of our program the past four years and I am thrilled to promote him to Associate Head Coach,” said Virginia Tech head coach Jim Thompson. “He has a proven track record and has done an outstanding job in every aspect of our program. During his tenure, we have achieved one of the highest national rankings in the history of the program. Additionally, we have had an individual qualify for the NCAA Tournament every year and a doubles team in 2007 as well.”
Borendame was named the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Mideast Region Assistant Coach of the Year earlier in May of this year. Borendame was one of eight assistants to receive the honor across the nation.
Borendame played his college tennis at Butler University in Indianapolis, Ind., where he was ranked 33rd nationally in doubles and set the school record with 101 career doubles victories. Borendame, a USPTA certified instructor, has also coached the Mid-Atlantic Junior Davis Cup team and the Mid-Atlantic Intersectional team.
