BLACKSBURG, Va. - The Virginia Tech men's track and field squad was named to the Division I Men's all-academic track and field team as a unit, and rising senior Matej Muza earned all-academic honors individually the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced on Aug. 6th.
Muza, a rising senior majoring in geography, represents the Hokie men on the all-academic team. The Zagreb, Croatia native secured all-American status when he finished fifth in the hammer throw at the national outdoor meet.
The Hokie men's squad maintained a grade point average of 3.09 to earn a spot on the list. Tech was one of only three Atlantic Coast Conference schools to earn all-academic honors as a team.
"Typically if someone is dedicated and succeeds in their sport, they will take that same attitude in the classroom and vice versa," Director of Cross Country and Track and Field Dave Cianelli said. "We have student-athletes that go into the classroom with the same determination and intensity to succeed as they do on the track. Since I've been here as our team has improved on the track, their academic performance has improved."
