Hokie ClubALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. - Virginia Tech's Albert Larregola and Yoann Re each earned a singles point, but it was not enough as the 27th-ranked Hokies fell to No. 28 Wake Forest, 4-2, in Friday afternoon's quarterfinal round of the Atlantic Coast Conference Men's Tennis Championships at Sanlando Park.
Tech, the No. 5 seed in the tourney, finishes the tournament with an overall record of 15-8. The Hokies will learn if they have been selected to the NCAA Tournament on Tuesday, April 29, with individual selections being announced the following day.
The No. 4 seed Demon Deacons improved to 17-9 after winning two of the three doubles matches and three of the five completed singles contests.
In singles action, No. 42 Larregola (Sr., Lleida, Spain) lost only one game in a dominating 6-0, 6-1 victory over No. 72 Steve Forman in the No. 1 match, and Re (So., Verdun, Quebec, Canada) beat Mariusz Adamski, 6-1, 6-3, at No. 3 for the other point. Wake Forest though had two wins at No. 5 and 6 as Jon Wolff defeated Sebastien Jacques (Fr., Magog, Quebec, Canada), 6-2, 6-2, and Andrew Brasseaux beat Brandon Corace (Jr., Naples, Fla.), 6-3, 6-2. The Deacs' 44th-ranked Cory Parr was able to win the clinching point at No. 2 with a 6-3, 2-6, 6-2 decision over No. 118 Nicolas Delgado de Robles (Jr., Madrid, Spain). As a result, Jason Morganstern and Pedro Graber's (So., Santiago, Chile) No. 4 match was halted before completion.
In doubles, Wake won the first match at No. 3 with Wolff/Morganstern defeating Re/Jacques, 8-2, but Tech responded at No. 2 with Larregola/Delgado de Robles beating Adamski/Salmon, 8-6. However, the Deacs earned the point in the No. 1 match with ninth-ranked Forman/Parr's 8-6 decision over Graber/Corace.
