Freshman QBs not the norm

• Virginia Tech head coach Frank Beamer announced Monday morning on his weekly teleconference that true freshman Tyrod Taylor (Hampton, Va.) will get the start Saturday against Ohio University.

• Taylor will become the first true freshman to start at quarterback in the Beamer Era (1987-present).

• Taylor takes over for Sean Glennon (r-Jr., Centreville, Va.), who has started the last 15 games for Tech. Glennon is the last true freshman to play at quarterback for Tech, playing in four games in 2004 before redshirting in 2005.

• The last true freshman to start at quarterback for Tech was Todd Greenwood in 1982. He enrolled at Tech in January of 1982 and went through spring practice before starting eight games that fall. The last true freshman who enrolled at Tech in the summer and went on to start that year at quarterback was Steve Casey, who started two games in 1978.
