Women's cross country remains 19th in USTFCCA poll

BLACKSBURG, Va. - The Virginia Tech women's cross country team is ranked 19th in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) poll for the second consecutive week. The Hokies started this season ranked 20th in the Sept. 11 preseason poll and fell to 25th on Sept. 18.

The Hokie women totaled 141 points in the national poll and improved three spots to second place behind only Duke for second straight week in the USTFCCCA's Southeast Regional poll after ranking fourth in the preseason and fifth on Sept. 18. The Hokies were joined in the regional rankings by fellow ACC schools Duke (No. 1), NC State (No. 3), Virginia (No. 4), Wake Forest (No. 6) and North Carolina (No. 7).

Back-to-back NCAA champion, Stanford, earned 10 first-place votes to top the national rankings while four other Atlantic Coast Conference members were among the field: Florida State (No. 11), Boston College (No. 16), Duke (No. 17) and NC State (No. 26).

The men's team stayed in fifth place in the Southeast Regional poll, along with fellow ACC schools North Carolina State (No. 3), Virginia (No. 4), Duke (No. 7), Wake Forest (No. 10) and Clemson (No. 12).

Both Tech squads have taken first place in three of four meets this season. Tech next competes at the University of Arkansas's Chile Pepper Invitational at 9:45 a.m. on Oct. 13 in Fayetteville, Ark.
