BLACKSBURG, Va. - The Virginia Tech women's cross country team is ranked 25th in the latest edition of the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) poll, released Tuesday. The Hokies fell six spots after reaching its highest ranking of the season at No. 19 for the previous two weeks.
The Hokie women totaled 86 points in the national poll, but passed Duke for the No. 1 spot in the USTFCCCA's Southeast Regional poll after ranking second the previous two weeks.
Back-to-back NCAA champion, Stanford, earned 13 first-place votes to top the national rankings while the ACC's Florida State improved to third place after finishing as the runner-up at the NCAA Pre-National meet, followed by NC State in 23rd and Boston College in 28th..
Tech's men's team ranked fifth in the Southeast Regional poll for the third consecutive week, along with fellow ACC schools North Carolina State (No. 1), Virginia (No. 2), Duke (No. 8), Clemson (No. 10), Wake Forest (No. 13) and North Carolina (No. 14).
In the men's national poll, NC State was the highest-ranked ACC school at No. 7, followed by Virginia in 11th.
The ACC Championships will be held Saturday, Oct. 27 at the Panorama Farms in Charlottesville, Va. The men's 8k race will start at 10 a.m., with the women's 6k race beginning at 11 a.m.
