Hokies sweep Penn State and Princeton

The Hokies swept Penn State and Princeton, ending Princetons's undefeated season.

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The Hokies dominated the pool against Penn State and Princeton on Saturday at the McCoy Natatorium. The women took down the Nittany Lions 216-84 and beat the undefeated Tigers 191-109. The men bested the Nittany Lions 193-107 and took down the undefeated Tigers 173-127.  

 

Hokie Women: 

Carmen Weiler Sastre, Emily Santos, Athena Meneses Kovacs and Emily Claesson started the morning off with a 1:38.86 200 medley relay, earning them first place. 

Kate Anderson recorded first-place finishes in the 500 free (4:49.11) and 1000 free (9:52.44). Chiara Klein took third place in the 500 free, posting a 4:52.01. 

Emma Atkinson’s 1:47.68 in the 200 free was good for second place. Claesson (22.86) and Fanni Gyurinovics (23.17) took second and third, respectively, in the 50 free, before Claesson locked in a first-place finish in the 100 free with a 49.31. Gyurinovics took second with a 49.98.  

Weiler Sastre took first place in the 100 back, posting a 52.15. In the 200 back, Hokies filled the podium. Weiler Sastre earned first (1:53.98), Atkinson placed second (1:56.89) and Mia Corrado took third (1:58.33). 

In the 100 breast, Santos finished first with a 1:01.55 and Allison Henry placed second (1:03.04). Nichelly Lysy swam a 2:13.81, good for first place in the 200 breast. Santos followed in second with a 2:14.58.  

Meneses Kovacs placed first in the 100 fly, as she swam a 53.25. Stephanie Sifferman earned second place in the 200 fly with a 1:57.59 and Brooke Zettel followed her in third place with a 2:01.54. 

Weiler Sastre, Claesson, Anna Summers and Meneses Kovacs wrapped up the successful trip with a first-place finish in the 400 free relay (3:17.28). 

On the boards, Peyton Guziec took first place on 3m, posting a 291.25. 

 

Hokie Men:

Youssef Ramadan, Carles Coll Marti, Mario Molla Yanes and Brendan Whitfield swam a 1:23.97 200 medley relay to kick off the meet with a first-place finish. 

Luis Dominguez took second in the 200 free (1:34.05) with Jakub Poliacik in third with a 1:35.81. The pair took the top two spots in the 500 free as well, with Dominguez swimming a 4:23.10 and Poliacik recording a 4:25.06.  

Ramadan placed first in the 50 free (19.16) followed by Whitfield in second (19.49). Whitfield finished first in the 100 free, recording a 42.35. 

Molla Yanes posted a third-place finish in the 100 back with his 47.07. In the 200 back, Molla Yanes took first place (1:42.21) and Levente Balogh took third place (1:43.20). 

Coll Marti swam a 51.55 in the 100 breast and a 1:52.09 in the 200 breast for two wins. Ethan Maloney came in third in the 100 breast with a 53.95. 

Ramadan recorded a first-place finish in the 100 fly (44.68), followed by William Hayon in second (46.55). In the 200 fly, Landon Gentry earned third place, recording a 1:46.91. 

Coll Marti closed out his day with a 1:43.39 in the 200 IM, earning him another first-place finish. 

Ramadan, Whitfield, Molla Yanes and Dominguez posted a 2:50.82 in the 400 free relay, good for first place. 

On the boards, Jacob Fisher placed third on 3m (311.35) and Rocky Ramsland took third on 1m (322.75).
