Maya Goddard
Defender
Enfield, Conn.
Connecticut FC
Virginia Tech women’s soccer has signed Maya Goddard to the 2026 recruiting class. Goddard, a defender from Enfield, Conn., played club soccer with Connecticut FC. She was named a three-time ECNL New England All-Conference selection. At the high school level with Westminster School, she is a 2023 New England Class A Champion and a 2025 All-American, All-Region and All-State selection.
“We’re excited to add Maya to our group,” head coach Chugger Adair said. “She’s going to be an excellent fit for our program. She’s a very quality, versatile and athletic defender who can play anywhere on the back line. She’s strong in the tackle and has the ability to play out to initiate the attack. We can’t wait to have her part of our team and welcome her to the family!”
Why did you choose Virginia Tech? I chose Virginia Tech because it offers the perfect balance of strong academics and a competitive athletic program. I wanted a school that would challenge me both in the classroom and on the field, and Virginia Tech does exactly that. The coaching staff and team culture also played a huge role in my decision. Coach Chugger and Coach Drew were incredible throughout my recruitment process and made me feel right at home.
What was your favorite thing about your visit? My favorite part of my visit was being able to hang out with the current players on the team. They immediately made me feel welcome and offered great information on the school. I also enjoyed getting a firsthand look at the team culture and how close everyone seemed, which made the experience even better!
What excites you the most about being part of Virginia Tech women’s soccer? Being a part of such a strong team in one of the best conferences for women’s soccer excites me because it offers the opportunity to compete at a high level, grow as a player, and contribute to a program with a tradition of excellence.
What are your soccer strengths? One of my strengths on the field is my composure on the ball. As a defender, it is easy to be frantic, but I do a good job holding the ball and finding the right pass. I take pride in staying calm under pressure and helping my team build out of the back with confidence and control.
Who is your favorite pro player and why? My favorite player is Naomi Girma. Her composure and decision-making are incredible to watch, especially as someone who plays a similar position. She consistently makes smart, clean plays and defends with such confidence. I try to model my 1v1 defending after hers, as she relies on smart positioning and timing rather than diving in.
What do you plan on majoring in? I plan to major in biology and pursue my goal of attending dental school to become a dentist.
What is one thing you want Virginia Tech fans to know about you? I danced competitively for over 12 years!
