LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Virginia Tech (9-7, 1-4 ACC) fell to No. 5 Louisville (13-2, 5-0 ACC) in straight sets (11-25, 12-25, 17-25) on Friday night at L&N Federal Credit Union Arena.
The Hokies faced early pressure as Louisville opened the first set with an 8-1 run. Freshman Adeline Hundl, making her second career start, notched two kills, while Payton Woods added two of her own along with a dig. Brianna Holladay posted a solo block to help stabilize the defense, but the Cardinals maintained control with a 10-5 closing run to take the set, 25-11.
In the second set, Virginia Tech trailed 9-2 early before calling timeout. Out of the break, the Hokies responded with more offensive rhythm behind Ainsley Ranstead, who tallied four kills and two digs in the frame. Holladay and Sarah Malinowski contributed at the net on both ends of the court. Despite their efforts, Louisville held on to claim the set, 25-12.
Set three marked Virginia Tech’s most competitive stretch of the night. The Hokies showed improved consistency offensively, highlighted by five kills and a block from Ranstead, along with key contributions from Holladay. Tech battled to 17 points before Louisville secured the final set, 25-17, and completed the sweep.
