BLACKSBURG – The Virginia Tech wrestling team finalized their 2024-2025 schedule on Wednesday, August 14, announced head coach Tony Robie. The pre-season No. 9 ranked Hokies will face yet another formidable schedule including duals against perennial powerhouses Missouri and Oklahoma State in addition to entry in the prestigious Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational.
Tech will kick off the season traveling the next town over in Salem with back-to-back competitions at Roanoke College’s Cregger Center – a dual opener against University of Tennessee-Chattanooga on November 1 followed by the Southeast Open on November 2.
The following weekend will see the Hokies send a contingent to the Mountaineer Invitational hosted by App State in Boone, NC on November 09.
Tech opens their home dual season with a continued series against national mainstay No. 10 Missouri Tigers on November 15 at Cassell Coliseum. Always a highly anticipated match-up between two top-10 programs littered with individual accolades, the last three duals between the teams have come down to the final bout.
Tech will take on a busy weekend the following week hosting No. 20 Rutgers on November 22 as part of a newly covenanted home-and-home series. With lineups populated by New Jersey natives, the Hokies will look to make it two straight wins over the Scarlet Knights after securing a win in Piscataway last season. It’s a quick turnaround as Tech will head north to Philadelphia for another year entered in the Keystone Classic at the University of Pennsylvania’s Palestra on November 24.
The Hokies will then fly west to Las Vegas for the prestigious Cliff Keen Invitational – long hailed as the most credentialed in-season tournament. Tech will take the mat at the Las Vegas Convention Center on December 06 and 07.
In a monumental addition to the schedule, Coach Robie and company will travel to newly minted head coach David Taylor and Cowboy territory. Meeting for the first time, Tech is slated to dual No. 3 Oklahoma State Cowboys in Gallagher-Iba Arena in Stillwater on December 19. With the potential of nine total All-Americans between the programs suiting up, Tech will look to cap off the first half of the season in electric fashion.
Back in action to ring in the New Year after the holiday hiatus, Tech will look to send a contingent south to Chattanooga, TN for the Southern Scuffle on January 04 and 05.
Continuing their road sojourn, the Hokies will take to North Carolina for three straight weekends starting off with Chapel Hill for the conference opener against North Carolina on January 10. Tech will face an ever-scrappy App State team the following weekend January 19 in Boone then travel back down Tobacco Road to Durham on January 24 against Duke.
Tech returns to Cassell for another edition of the Commonwealth Clash against Virginia on January 31. The Hokies will look to make it 15-straight victories over little brother before taking the road one last time in the regular season. Finishing off their away schedule, Tech flies to Palo Alto for a dual against new Atlantic Coast Conference addition Stanford the following weekend.
The Hokies wrap up their season schedule with two pivotal duals at home – Pittsburgh and No. 8 NC State. Tech hosts a formidable Pitt squad on February 14 then welcomes rival Wolfpack on February 21 in what is always an electric night of wrestling with regular season title implications on the line to cap off another season of ACC Friday Night Duals.
Tech takes to the post-season with another trip to Durham for the 2025 ACC Championships on March 09.
Poised for another successful postseason run with five returning All-Americans and an NCAA champion in the ranks, the Hokies will take to Philadelphia for the 2025 NCAA Championships in Wells Fargo Arena from March 20-22. Tech will look to send a full lineup for the third-straight year and look to continue a three-program exclusive streak of three or more All-Americans to 12-consecutive seasons. The Hokies have finished top 11 in the last 12 seasons as well as leading the conference in final placement in 8 of the last 10 NCAA Championships.
