BLACKSBURG – Safety Quentin Reddish will wear the No. 25 jersey when the Hokies travel to play Duke this Saturday. The matchup will be the true freshman’s first time honoring the legacy of historic Virginia Tech head coach Frank Beamer. Reddish and the Hokies will face off against the Blue Devils in Wallace Wade Stadium on Saturday, Nov. 23 at 8 p.m. ET with live coverage on ACC Network.
Before arriving in Blacksburg this fall, Reddish found massive success at the safety position in high school. Through four years at Independence High School, Reddish amassed 196 career tackles and 14 interceptions while helping lead the Patriots to a 22-6 record over his junior and senior seasons. On3 and Rivals ranked the Charlotte, North Carolina native a four-star recruit coming out of high school and was also ranked as the eighteenth-best safety in the nation.
Through ten appearances as a Hokie this fall, Reddish has made an impact both on defense and in special teams play. Against then-No. 19 Clemson on Nov. 9, Reddish was on the receiving end of a blocked field goal try and then ran it in for a 77-yard score in the second quarter. The touchdown, the first of Reddish’s Tech career, gave the Hokies a 7-0 lead entering halftime.
When Reddish wears the No. 25 jersey this weekend, he will become the first true freshman since Tucker Holloway in 2022 to earn the honor. Only six other true freshmen have worn the jersey: Divine Deablo, Chamarri Conner, Dax Hollifield, Tre Turner, Jalen Stroman and PJ Prioleau.
The weekly tradition of wearing No. 25 started in 2016 and has continued each season. Each week, a member of the special teams wears the number to recognize how influential Frank Beamer was to Tech football, both as a player and a coach. The jersey number was retired in 2002.
