All Virginia Tech starters reach base in 8-4 victory against Georgia Tech

BLACKSBURG, Va. --Virginia Tech got contributions from every part of their lineup, as all nine starters reached base safely, helping the No. 16 Hokies put eight runs on the board and defeat the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets 8-4 Friday.

Sophomore Lyndsey Grein (10-3) started in the circle and picked up the win for Virginia Tech (33-9-1, 15-4). The right-hander went five innings, giving up four runs, all of them earned, on six hits, allowing three walks and striking out three. Freshman Emma Mazzarone also made an impact in the circle for the Hokies, throwing two scoreless innings while allowing one hit, with no walks and one strikeout.

Offensively, the Hokies were led by senior Addy Greene, who went 1-for-4 on the day with a home run and two RBI. Junior Cori McMillan compiled a standout effort as well, going 1-for-4 with a home run and two RBI. Senior Emma Ritter also helped out for Virginia Tech, putting together two hits in four trips to the plate while adding a double and two RBI.

The Hokies got the scoring started early, putting two runs on the board in the bottom the first inning with the game still scoreless.

Virginia Tech's offense started clicking and put up six runs, including a two-run double off the bat of Ritter and a two-run double from senior Cameron Fagan.

The Yellow Jackets then gained ground, narrowing the lead to 6-4 until the Hokies expanded their advantage in the sixth.
