CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A program-record seven members of the Virginia Tech men's basketball team were selected to the All-ACC Academic Team as announced by the league office on Thursday.
Hunter Cattoor was honored for the fourth straight season, while MJ Collins, Tyler Nickel, Sean Pedulla and Mylyjael Poteat became two-time recipients, and Robbie Beran and Jaydon Young were first-time honorees.
Cattoor, a fifth-year student, earned his bachelor's degree in human development last year and is currently pursuing a second bachelor's degree in consumer studies. Collins, Pedulla and Young are all sports media and analytics majors. Nickel and Poteat are both sociology majors, and Beran, the Hokies' lone graduate student, is pursuing a master's degree in agricultural and life sciences.
Tech's seven recipients tied for second in the ACC, only trailing Duke (eight). Entering this year, the Hokies had at least tied for the conference lead for most honorees three years in a row. The seven All-ACC Academic Team members are the most in school history, eclipsing the previous high of six in 2023.
To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during his academic career. In addition, eligible nominees must have participated in 50% of his team's scheduled games.
