A trip to the Sweet 16 will be on the line at Carilion Clinic Court at Cassell Coliseum on Sunday between fourth-seeded Virginia Tech and fifth-seeded Baylor in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
The contest will take place at 8 p.m. ET on ESPN. The matchup is sold out, but fans are encouraged to visit SeatGeek, the official secondary marketplace of Virginia Tech Athletics.
The two schools have only met once and that came on March 23, 2021 in the second round of the NCAA Tournament, a 90-48 Baylor win in San Antonio.
The Hokies (25-7) are coming off of their biggest NCAA Tournament margin of victory in program history (43 points) with a 92-49 victory over the 13 seed Marshall, while the Bears (25-7) earned a 17-point win over the 12 seed Vanderbilt, 80-63, on Friday.
In Friday's game, Baylor was led by Bella Fontleroy, who recorded a double-double (game-high 19 points, 11 rebounds). Big 12 all-conference selection Sarah Andrews recorded 13 points and five rebounds, while two other Bears (Darianna Littlepage-Buggs, Jana Van Gytenbeek) scored in double figures.
Defensively, BU forced 21 Vanderbilt turnovers and held the Commodores to shooting just 17 percent from downtown.
For the Hokies, Friday was similar – a double-digit win, as well. Tech got major contributions from Clara Strack who was 7-of-7 from the floor, and four other Hokies scored in double figures. Tech set multiple records, including the most points in program history in the NCAA Tournament (92) and its home winning streak was extended to 26 games, a program record.
