For the second straight season, Virginia Tech women's basketball will host the first and second rounds of the NCAA Tournament. This season, its first-round matchup will be against No. 13-seeded Marshall.

The contest will take place on Friday at 3:30 p.m. ET on ESPN2 at Carilion Clinic Court at Cassell Coliseum. The matchup is sold out, but fans are encouraged to visit SeatGeek, the official secondary marketplace of Virginia Tech Athletics.

The Hokies (24-7, 14-4 ACC), who are a No. 4 seed and earned the ACC regular-season title, face the Thundering Herd (26-6, 17-1 Sun Belt) for the 10th time in their series history. The two schools haven't met since 1992.

Marshall, like the Hokies, won the regular-season conference title. The Herd also got it done in the Sun Belt tournament, winning all three games to claim the championship. In the title game, Marshall defeated second-seeded JMU 95-92 in overtime in Pensacola, Florida.

The Herd have three players who average double figures in scoring, including Abby Beeman (16.8 ppg), Breanna Campbell (15.0 ppg) and Aislynn Hayes (14.8 ppg), and are led by first-year head coach Kim Caldwell, who was the Sun Belt Coach of the Year. Beeman has turned in two triple-doubles so far this season and was named the Sun Belt Player of the Year.

Tech is coming off making the ACC Tournament semifinals for the third time in program history, falling to eventual champion Notre Dame (26-6, 13-5). The Hokies are led by two All-Conference performers in three-time ACC Player of the Year Elizabeth Kitley (22.8 ppg, 11.4 rpg) and Georgia Amoore (19.2 ppg, 6.9 apg) who was also a first team All-ACC selection.
