JOHNS ISLAND, S.C. – Junior Kobe Valociek carded a 3-under 213 to take fourth and lead the Virginia Tech men's golf team to a fifth place finish at the Battle at Briar's Creek. The two-day, 54-hole event wrapped up Tuesday at the par 72, 7,175-yard Golf Club at Briar's Creek.
The Hokies manufactured rounds of 290-294-287 to post a 7-over 871. Their fifth-place finish tied for their best showing this season. Tech also placed fifth at its fall finale – the Furman Intercollegiate.
Valociek, who carded a 4-under 68 in Tuesday's final round, tied for second in the field in par-4 scoring at 4-under. He logged 10 birdies over his 54 holes. It was his second career top-five finish of his career (Old Town Club Collegiate, 2021).
Drew Brockwell notched his first top-20 of the season by tying for 18th at 1-over 217. The fifth-year senior led the Hokies with a team-best 14 birdies.
Wake Forest's Mark Power won the tournament with a 9-under 207. In second place, Kentucky's Alex Goff finished with a 5-under 211.
Led by Power's performance, Wake Forest ran away with the team race with a 13-under 851. All five of its golfers finished inside the top 22. Memphis (-4) and UNC Wilmington (+1) placed second and third, respectively.
Next, the Hokies travel to Florida for the Watersound Intercollegiate hosted by Florida State, Feb. 19-21.
