BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech football hosts former Big East competitor Syracuse for the Hokies' first Thursday night game of the year at 7:30 p.m. ET.
The Orange lead the all-time series 11-8 dating back to 1964, but the Hokies dominate in home games against Syracuse, holding a 6-3 record in Lane Stadium. Tickets to the third ACC matchup are available starting at $60.

Oct. 11, 2003 – Virginia Tech 51, Syracuse 7 (Blacksburg, Va.)
The last time the Orange came to Blacksburg for a Big East conference game, Tech won 51-7 over Syracuse. VT Sports Hall of Famer defensive back DeAngelo Hall, who holds the school record with five punt return TDs, returned two punts for touchdowns in the first quarter, one a 58-yard return, the next for 60 yards, and added a 24-yard rushing touchdown. No other Tech player has ever returned more than one punt for a touchdown in the same game. Running back Kevin Jones recorded 19 carries for 131 yards with two touchdowns as the Hokies rushed for 337 yards on the day.

Oct. 21, 2000 – Virginia Tech 22, Syracuse 14 (Blacksburg, Va.)
As the No. 2 team in the country, Tech faced a 14-0 deficit after the first quarter in the Carrier Dome but battled back to win the game in the second half. Two rushing touchdowns from running back Lee Suggs less than four minutes apart in the third quarter put Tech up 15-14. Quarterback Michael Vick iced the game with a 55-yard touchdown run with less than two minutes remaining in the game. Safety Willie Pile also tied the school record with three interceptions in a game, as Tech's defense forced five turnovers in the road victory.
