Virginia Tech Head Coach Kenny Brooks was named as a finalist for the Naismith Coach of the Year Award the organization announced Monday. The news comes on the heels of Brooks leading the Hokies to the Sweet Sixteen for just the second time in program history.
This season Brooks has led the Hokies to a 29-4 record and a No. 4 ranking in the AP Poll. In conference play, Tech won 14 games in the ACC for the first time ever, earning a double bye in the ACC Tournament. In the program's first appearance in the championship game, the Hokies defeated Louisville 75-67.
With its 72-60 victory over the nine seed South Dakota State, the Hokies set two single season program records by earning their 29th victory of the season and 16th at home.
Brooks' Hokies have set multiple records over the course of the season including: defeating six ranked teams, the eight-game winning streak to close the regular season is the longest ACC-winning streak in program history and the number four position in the AP Poll is the highest in program history. The 23-poll streak that the program is on is also a program record for consecutive AP Polls ranked in.
Three Hokies, Elizabeth Kitley, Georgia Amoore and Taylor Soule earned All-ACC honors and Kitley and Amoore were both recognized as All-Americans.
The other finalists for the award are Teri Moren (Indiana), Lynne Roberts (Utah) and Dawn Staley (South Carolina).
