NFL Hokies: Week 6 primer

With Week 5 in the NFL officially in the books and a lot to look forward to with Week 6 on the horizon, there's a bunch to take a glance at regarding what former Virginia Tech football players are up to at the professional level. With plenty of maroon and orange scattered across the league, there continues to be opportunity after opportunity to see a multitude of Hokies perform on Sunday's in the fall.

What's on-tap for Week 6? For a full rundown, read Wednesday's edition of NFL Hokies, presented by Coca-Cola.
 Notable Week 5 Performances

LB Divine Deablo
Las Vegas second-year linebacker Divine Deablo has continued to shine early on in the 2022 campaign. The former Tech safety led the Raiders in tackles in the team's heartbreaking late-game loss to Kansas City on Monday Night Football, racking up 10 total tackles, with six coming on his own.

Deablo and company will now get to enjoy a week off before playing host to Houston the following Sunday. Kickoff for that one is set for 4:05 p.m. ET and will be televised on CBS.

RB Raheem Blackshear
Rookie running back Raheem Blackshear wasted no time making an impact on the Carolina Panthers in his NFL debut. The 2022 undrafted free agent welcomed himself to the professional ranks by breaking off a 48-yard kick return, before following that up later by nearly taking it to midfield again on a 45-yard sprint.

A two-year starter with the Hokies from 2020-21, Blackshear looks to have seized the starting kick returner job down in Charlotte. And with himself, Amarè Barno and the Panthers traveling to Los Angeles to take on the Chargers this upcoming weekend, he'll have yet another opportunity to showcase his talents at the highest level when toe meets leather at 4:05 p.m. on FOX.

OT Wyatt Teller
It's no secret that Cleveland star Wyatt Teller has turned himself into one of the best offensive tackles in the entire NFL. The 2021 Pro Bowler has totaled an impressive 85.7 overall rating on Pro Football Focus so far this season, with an eye-catching grade of 87.1 when it comes to his highly-regarded run-blocking.

No stranger to success on the gridiron at the professional level, the 6-foot-4, 315-pounder still hasn't missed a snap in 2022, and is tied for first in the league in penalties with just four going to his credit.

Teller and company look to get back on track after two consecutive losses when they welcome New England into FirstEnergy Stadium this upcoming weekend. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. with the game being televised on CBS.
 More Week 6 Matchups

Thursday, Oct. 13
Washington at Chicago - 8:15 p.m. - Amazon Prime Video
Chicago's Soldier Field will feature no shortage of Hokies with the Washington Commanders coming to town in this week's edition of Thursday Night Football.

Second-year running back Khalil Herbert rushed for 11 yards on four carries in the Bears' loss to Minnesota back on Sunday, while cornerback Kendall Fuller garnered three total tackles on the other side of the ball for Washington in the Commanders' last-second defeat to Tennessee this past weekend.

Placekicker Joey Slye arguably had his best day at the office in 2022 for the burgundy and gold. The former four-year starter during his time in Blacksburg booted through a 50-yard field goal attempt, and went 2-for-2 on the afternoon when tacking on extra points.

Meanwhile, tight end Logan Thomas remains questionable for this weekend after being sidelined last week with a calf injury, but could be a big boost to the Washington offense if able to go on Thursday evening.

Sunday, Oct. 16
N.Y. Jets at Green Bay - 1 p.m. - FOX
Offensive tackle Duane Brown finally made his Jets debut this past weekend after being sidelined the previous four games with an unspecified injury.

The 15-year veteran performed well in New York's 23-point thrashing of Miami back on Sunday at MetLife Stadium, playing all 59 snaps while posting a 74.4 overall grade, according to Pro Football Focus.

Brown and company look to keep the momentum going after a surprising start to 2022, as they travel to Lambeau Field to take on fellow former Tech offensive lineman Yosh Nijman and the Green Bay Packers in an interconference matchup.

Jacksonville at Indianapolis - 1 p.m. - FOX
Cornerback Brandon Facyson, offensive lineman Luke Tenuta and the Indianapolis Colts eye back-to-back victories for the first time this season when they play host to the Jacksonville Jaguars this upcoming weekend.

Facyson didn't record a tackle in the team's Thursday night win over Denver last week, but has shown he's a valuable element to Indianapolis' secondary after a strong start to the year in his debut season suiting up in America's Crossroads.

Tenuta, a sixth-round pick in this past April's NFL Draft, still searches to make his professional debut after a successful career with the maroon and orange, and will continue to be a nice depth piece for the Colts when called upon if needed.

Minnesota at Miami - 1 p.m. - FOX
Star tackle Christian Darrisaw keeps producing at an extremely high level on Minnesota's offensive line in his second professional go-around in 2022.

The 2021 first round draft pick has missed just one snap so far this season, grading out on Pro Football Focus at 82.5 overall, with a boastful 82.2 in pass-blocking to compliment a noteworthy number.

The 6-foot-5, 315-pounder has now finally shown what he's capable of at the NFL ranks after spending a chunk of his rookie year on the shelf with a nagging groin issue. But with his health and confidence the best it's ever been, Darrisaw is now able to put his talents on full display for a Vikings team with high expectations in the NFC North.

Baltimore at N.Y. Giants - 1 p.m. - FOX
Standout safety Chuck Clark keeps putting together solid performances in Baltimore's secondary week in and week out over the course of the 2022 campaign.

The sixth-year member of the purple and black added seven total tackles (3 solo) in the team's 19-17 win over Cincinnati back on Sunday. And if Clark continues to produce at a level of this caliber, it'll be a huge boost to the Ravens' hopes of contending for the division crown in one of the most competitive ones in the entirety of the NFL.

Looking to keep the train moving, Baltimore makes the trip up to MetLife Stadium this upcoming weekend to take on former Ravens Super Bowl Champion Tyrod Taylor and the surprising New York Giants.

Tampa Bay at Pittsburgh - 1 p.m. - FOX
Pittsburgh safety Terrell Edmunds remains a major question mark after missing last week's loss to Buffalo due to being placed in concussion protocol.

The 2018 first-round draft pick has had a respectable 2022 in his fifth season up in the Steel City, owning 13 total tackles (9 solo) in just four games played in before being held off the field.

The Steelers could use Edmunds' presence this weekend, when they welcome Tampa Bay and that high-prolific Buccaneers offense into Acrisure Stadium for a highly-anticipated matchup.

Arizona at Seattle - 4:05 p.m. - FOX
Rookie Lecitus Smith saw action for the second time in his professional career this past weekend on Arizona's offensive line.

Smith, a sixth-round pick in this past year's NFL Draft, played four snaps on special teams in the Cardinals' 20-17 loss to Philadelphia inside StateFarm Stadium, proving to be a valuable asset in his limited time on the field thus far in his debut season out in the desert.

Buffalo at Kansas City - 4:25 p.m. - CBS
Just like his brother, Terrell, Tremaine Edmunds is still listed as questionable heading into Buffalo's big-time showdown with Kansas City on Sunday afternoon.

Still nursing a hamstring injury, Edmunds has 26 total tackles so far this season, and hasn't stopped showing off why he's been one of the best at his position since breaking into the league back in 2018.

If absent, former college and current NFL teammate Tim Settle may have to step up on the defensive line. The former Washington Commander didn't secure a tackle in last week's 38-3 thumping of Pittsburgh, but has shown in flashes so far this season the type of player he can continue to be at the professional level.
