BLACKSBURG, Va. -- The Virginia Tech volleyball team completed the weekend sweep on Saturday afternoon with a three-set win (25-19, 25-12, 25-23) over the Old Dominion Monarchs at Cassell Coliseum.
The victory improved Virginia Tech's overall record to 4-2 on the season and a perfect 3-0 on the weekend.
Following the tournament, Maddie Slagle was named the MVP after recording 33 digs over three matches. She ended her weekend with 3.67 digs per set and a .975 reception percentage. Slagle also added five aces in the weekend sweep. Anabel Zier also earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team. She finished with 17 blocks, leading the team 1.89 per set. Offensively, the senior recorded 16 kills and a .500 attack percentage.
Against the Monarchs, freshman Lucky-Rose Williams finished with 11 kills on the day to lead the Hokies offense. Defensively, Tech had two players reach double figures in digs as Hanna Borer and Maddie Slagle each had 10. Amaya Roberson led the Hokie block with six and Anabel Zier added five rejections.

How It Happened
The Hokies took control of the first set at 4-3 and held the lead the rest of the way to win 25-19. Virginia Tech opened up its biggest lead, six points, to finish off the set. Tech also supplemented their offense with three aces in the opening set.
Tech took set two 25-12 to promptly jump to a 2-0 lead. The Hokies scored first and never trailed in the set to secure the victory. Virginia Tech opened up as much as a 14-point lead at 22-8 before closing out the set. The Hokies hit .400 over the course of the set, powered by Lewis who recorded three attacks on three attempts, and Zier who went 3-for-4.
Virginia Tech finished off the match in a 3-0 sweep after grabbing set three. The Hokies battled in a back-and-forth set to win 25-23 in a set that featured four lead changes and was tied six times. Neither team opened up a lead of more than four points along the way. Virginia Tech's front row had a solid defensive performance, blocking four Old Dominion attacks in the stanza. Cara Lewis and Roberson led the way, each recording two blocks in the third set.
The Hokies are back in action next weekend, heading to Chicago, Ill. to compete in the DePaul Invitational. Along with the Blue Demons, Tech will take on Eastern Michigan and Saint Louis.
