BLACKSBURG – The Virginia Tech volleyball team secured a three-set victory (25-10, 25-17, 25-20) over the Coppin State Eagles Friday at Cassell Coliseum.
The non-conference victory moved the Hokies' overall record to 2-2 on the season.
Tech was led by a double-double from Cera Powell, who registered 16 kills and 12 digs on the day. Elayna Duprey also added eight kills to help the attack. On the defensive end, Maddie Slagle chipped in with 12 digs to go with six blocks from Sydney Petersen.

How It Happened
The Hokies took control of the set-one lead at 4-3 and never looked back to win 25-10. Virginia Tech opened up its biggest lead, 15 points, to finish off the set. Virginia Tech also supplemented their offense with three aces in the opening set.
After their win in the first set, Virginia Tech put themselves on the cusp of a sweep with a 25-17 victory in set number two. The Hokies took control of the set lead early on at 6-5 and never looked back. Virginia Tech opened its biggest lead of the stanza, eight points, to finish off the set. The Virginia Tech offense also got a boost from three aces. Virginia Tech's front row had a solid defensive performance, blocking six Coppin State attacks in the set.
Virginia Tech took set three to finish off the match. The Hokies scored first and never trailed in the set to earn a 25-20 victory. Virginia Tech ended on a high note, claiming its biggest lead, five points, to finish off the set, collecting 16 kills along the way.
