Hokie ClubVirginia Tech football fans got to witness the Hokies storm out to a 20-0 halftime lead Saturday and go on to defeat Wofford 27-7 to improve to 2-1 on the season and a perfect 2-0 at Lane Stadium.

Wells Shines Early
Quarterback Grant Wells threw 12 completions in the first quarter versus the Terriers, marking the most completions in the first quarter by a Tech quarterback since Bryan Randall threw 10 against UCF on Aug. 31, 2003. Wells would finish the game throwing 26-of-35 for 314 yards. The 26 completions and 314 yards were the most by a Hokie in a game since Ryan Willis threw 29 passes for 344 yards at Boston College in 2019.
Spreading the Wealth
Showcasing its well-balanced attack in the air, 11 different Hokies registered a reception in the game. The last time 11 or more players caught a pass in a game was against Ohio on Sept. 15, 2007, when 11 Hokies also caught a pass.
Southern Comfort
This was the first meeting between Tech and Wofford, which is in the Southern Conference. Tech became a charter member of the SoCon back on Feb. 25, 1921. The program eventually withdrew from the league in June 1965. Overall, the Hokies are now 149-120-22 against the SoCon and 24-4-1 in Lane Stadium.
When facing opponents for the first time, Tech is now 78-22-1 all-time and 53-17-2 at home. The Hokies are on a nine-game winning streak versus first-time opponents, with the streak starting with then-No. 1 Ohio State in 2014.
Key Play
Once again, the defense came out strong on crucial downs. They've held the offense to three or fewer third downs in the first three games of the season for the third time since 1987 (Beamer era-present).
