A combination of shutdown defense and an efficient offensive performance puts Virginia Tech up 20-0 over Wofford heading into the half Saturday.
Quarterback Grant Wells' arm continues to fuel Tech's offense, with 228 yards and one touchdown off 20 completions. Wells' 12 completions in the first quarter were the most in any quarter since Nov. 12, 2016, against Georgia Tech. This was also the most completions in the first quarter in program history.
The first points of the game came from Tech kicker William Ross. A 46-yard field goal with under four minutes left in the first quarter put the Hokies up 3-0. Then, with just under 10 seconds into the second quarter, Ross came back out to hit a 41-yard field goal to extend Tech's lead to 6-0.
The first touchdown of the game came from running back Jalen Holston, punching in a one-yard rushing touchdown to put the Hokies up 13-0. An 11-yard receiving touchdown from wideout Jaden Blue put Tech up 20-0 heading into the break.
The Lunch Pail defense continues to shine, shutting down the Wofford offense to just 41 total offensive yards. The defensive squad hasn't allowed a single point in the first quarter all season. Stars on the defensive side of the ball were defensive lineman Cole Nelson and defensive back Brion Murray, who each had one sack apiece.
