BLACKSBURG – The Virginia Tech swim & dive team announced Noah Zawadzki, Izzi Mroz, Keith Myburgh, Noah Desman and Madelyn Moore are returning for the 2022-23 season to complete their fifth years.
Zawadzki is a diver from Greensboro, N.C. and was named VaSID Diver of the Year last season. During the 2021-22 season, he finished first in both the 1-meter and 3-meter events against Virginia, Penn State and Duke. Throughout his winning season, Zawadzki set a school record on the 1-meter board with a score of 426.75. He placed seventh in the 1-meter, 3-meter and platform events during the 2022 ACC Championships, garnering 69 points. During Zawadzki's junior year, he won the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events against N.C. State, Virginia and Duke, as well as placing first in both events at the Virginia Tech Invitational.
Mroz, a diver from Denver, was named to the Scholar All-America team by the College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America after the 2021-22 season. Mroz placed second in both the 1-meter and 3-meter events against Penn State and George Washington during her 2021-22 senior season. She finished in 11th place in the 3-meter at the ACC's last year, accumulating 16 points. During the 2020-21 season, Mroz placed first in the 3-meter and fifth in the 1-meter against Virginia. She also placed second in the 10-meter and third in the 1-meter at the Virginia Tech Invitational.
Myburgh placed first in the men's 200 IM at the 2022 CSCAA National Invitational Championship. He was also named to the Scholar All-America team last season. During the 2022 ACC's, Myburgh placed sixth in both the 400 IM and 200 breastroke, finishing with 49 points. He placed first in the 400 IM, third in both the 200 breast and 200 IM, and fifth in the 100 breast at the Virginia Tech Invitational. Pre-COVID, he competed in Wave II of the 2020 U.S. Olympic Trials in the 400 IM and 200 breast.
Desman, a swimmer from Clifton, Va., finished second in the 200 free and sixth in the 50 free at George Washington. During the 2022 Virginia Tech Invitational, Desman placed first in the 100 free, third in the 200 free and eighth in the 50 free. This freestyle swimmer placed third in the 200 free and fifth in the 100 free against Penn State, as well as placing third in the 200 free and eighth in the 100 free against Virginia.
Moore transferred from Northern Colorado and was the WAC Swimmer of the Year for two consecutive seasons and a three-time WAC Swimmer of the Week during the 2021-22 season. During her senior year at Northern Colorado, she placed first 20 times, with the 50 free, 100 free, and 100 back being her best times. She placed first 32 times in numerous events during the 2020-21 season, as well as winning gold at the WAC Championships in the 50 free, 100 free and the 400 free relay. The Bermudan native also represented Team Bermuda at the World Championships in 2022.
