WILMINGTON, N.C. – The Virginia Tech volleyball team dropped its final match of the Seahawk Volleyball Classic, falling to Davidson 3-1 Saturday afternoon.
The Wildcats took the match winning set one 25-16 and sets three and four 25-14 and 25-17, respectively. The Hokies took the second set by a score of 25-16.
The second set saw a balanced attack from Virginia Tech, as five different Hokies recorded at least one kill. Elayna Duprey came in to the match to record six for Tech and Ava Francis added five, making the start in the second set. The Hokies also added two blocks.
Overall, the Wildcats held the advantage at the net, recording 12 total blocks compared to four by the Hokies. Davidson also ended the match hitting .298 vs. a .129 put up by Virginia Tech. Davidson's Isabel Decker was the team-leader in kills with 12 and Jessie Doyal added 19 assists.
For the Hokies, Duprey ended the match with 14 kills and Francis added 13. Maddie Slagle had a solid match defensively, recording 15 digs. She also added two aces. Freshman Hanna Borer continues to impress as the setter, tallying a game-high 38 assists.
Virginia Tech opens the home slate next weekend, hosting the Hokie Invite on September 2 and 3. The Hokies will welcome Coppin State, Marist and Old Dominion to town and will play three matches over the two-day span.
