Three Virginia Tech lacrosse athletes were named to VaSID's 2022 All-State Team the organization announced Thursday. Freshman Olivia Vergano earned First Team accolades, while Sophie Student and Jordan Tilley were placed on the Second Team.
Vergano was second on the squad with 40 goals and earned a place on the ACC's All-Freshman Team. She scored two game-winning goals, had multiple goals in 12 contests and recorded a hat trick seven times. Her 73 draw controls are the eight-most in VT history for a single season.
The West Babylon, New York native was named the ACC's Co-Offensive Player of the Week on March 15 after scoring four goals in both wins over Notre Dame and Winthrop. Vergano was the only freshman to win an ACC weekly award in 2022.
Her list of accolades includes; ACC All-Freshman Team 2022, ACC All-Academic Team 2022, IWLCA South Region Second Team 2022, Inside Lacrosse All-America Honorable Mention 2022, ACC Offensive Player of the Week (3/15/22).
Student started all 18 games in midfield scoring 50 points (38 goals, 12 assists) and recording 32 ground balls, 80 draw controls and 19 caused turnovers … Her 80 draw controls rank sixth for a single season in VT program history. She was also an ACC All-Academic Team member.
Tilley was a team captain who started every game and recorded career highs in ground balls (37) and caused turnovers (23).
