Emily Mahar selected to All-ACC Academic Team

BLACKSBURG — Emily Mahar was named to the 2022 All-ACC Academic Team, as announced by the league office Monday afternoon.

A three-time women's golf All-ACC Academic Team member, Mahar recently graduated with her master's degree in agricultural and life sciences. The Brisbane, Australia native was selected to the All-ACC team for the second year in a row after leading the Hokies with a 72.81 scoring average.

Mahar became Tech's first-ever WGCA All-America Honorable Mention selection after qualifying for the NCAA National Championship as an individual. She totaled eight top-20 performances, including a pair of runner-up finishes at the Landfall Tradition and the Ann Arbor Regional. Ranked 55th by Golfstat, Mahar finished at par-or-better 17 times, counting 11 times in the red.

She concluded her Tech career as the program's all-time career scoring average leader (73.25), in addition to recording 60 par-or-better rounds, 10 top-5s and 17 top-10s.

Thirteen of the 15 student-athletes who earned All-ACC honors this season also secured spots on the academic honors team, including ACC Player of the Year Rachel Kuehn of Wake Forest and Freshman of the Year Carolina Lopez-Chacarra of Wake Forest.

Florida State's Amelia Williamson was named the ACC Women's Golf Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

The ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year award was established in September 2007 to be awarded annually to the top junior or senior student-athlete in their respective sports. Candidates for the award must have maintained a 3.0 grade point average for their career as well as a 3.0 for each of the last two semesters.

To be eligible for consideration for the All-ACC Academic team, a student-athlete, regardless of classification, must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during her academic career.

The ACC Honor Roll, which recognizes all conference student-athletes with a grade point average of 3.0 for the current academic year, will be released in July.
