INDIANAPOLIS – Six Virginia Tech football players were able to participate at the 2022 NFL Scouting Combine March 3-6 and most took giant strides in improving their stock heading into the NFL Draft.
The draft, which takes place April 28-30 in Paradise, Nevada, is what these Hokies have on their minds. They'll get another chance to showcase their skills during Tech's Pro Day, but until then, their performances at the combine will be fresh on scouts' minds.
For how each player faired, read below.
TRÉ TURNER
Turner was the first Hokie to go, as fellow tight end James Mitchell recovers from a surgery this past fall due to injury and did just a physical at the combine, and impressed, running a 4.51 40-yard dash and his ability to catch the football at the receiver position. Full recap.
LECITUS SMITH
Smith, an offensive guard, was able to get up 23 bench press reps at 225 pounds and showed his versatility with his hips during the position drills. Full recap.
LUKE TENUTA
Tenuta, coming in at 6-foot-8, was able to showcase his quick burst in and out of cuts and replicate getting off the ball at the tackle position. Full recap.
AMARÉ BARNO
Becoming a household name overnight, Barno flexed his speed on the big stage, running a 4.36 40-yard dash time, which is the fastest by a defensive lineman or linebacker since 2003. Full recap.
JERMAINE WALLER
Wrapping up the event, Waller participated on Sunday and ran a 40-yard dash and competed in defensive back position drills, showing off his hands (he had seven interceptions at Tech). Full recap.
