Hokies tie best-ever finish at NCAA’s

ATLANTA – The Virginia Tech men's swim and dive season has come to an end after an impressive performance at the NCAA Championship in Atlanta. The Hokies finished 11th overall with 143 total points, most in program history. The Hokies tied their placement from last season, which was the highest in program history
 
On the final day of competition, Sam Tornqivst was the first to qualify for the finals in the 200 back. He placed 10th in the prelims, then 13th in the finals. He touched the wall at 1:39.70, just five-tenths of a second away from his own school record.
 
Youssef Ramadan earned himself a spot in the finals for the 100 free with a time of 41.76. Later, he placed 11th overall finishing with a time of 41.72, a new school record. Earlier in the week, he broke the 50 free and the 100 fly school records and had podium finishes in those events.
 
Carles Coll Marti and AJ Pouch both qualified for the finals in the 200 breast. Coll Marti broke the school record in the morning during prelims. He finished 7th with a time of 1:51.19. In the finals, he swam faster and placed higher. He earned 4th overall, his second podium finish, with a time of 1:49.69, the new school record and ACC record. Pouch swam two personal bests; He finished 11th overall with a time of 1:51.73.
 
The last individual swimmer of the night was Antani Ivanov. In the prelims, he placed 10th with a time of 1:40.97. Later, he raced in the consolation final and won with a huge surge in his last 50, finishing 9th overall, earning points for Hokies.
