BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech fell to No. 21 Notre Dame, 4-0, on Sunday afternoon inside the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center.
The Hokies fell behind after the doubles point, as the No. 42 team of Axel Nefve and Matthew Che defeated No. 9 Jordan Chrysostom and Ryan Fishback on Court 1. Notre Dame clinched the point with a 6-3 win on Court 2.
In singles, Virginia Tech stayed close in its sets, but couldn't close quick enough. The Fighting Irish picked up wins on Court 2 and Court 6 in straight sets, then clinched when No. 44 Nefve defeated No. 103 Ryan Fishback, 7-5, 7-5.
Alvaro Saez-Royuela Ariza was on the edge of picking up a win on Court 3 when the match was called, while Carlo Donato was a game away from forcing a third set on Court 5.
Virginia Tech will be back in action on Friday, March 18, at Clemson.
