Carolina Classic up next for No. 7 Hokies

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The No. 7 Virginia Tech softball team plays in its final tournament of the season this weekend, heading to Columbia to compete in the Carolina Classic, hosted by South Carolina.

ROAD WARRIORS
 
This is the Hokies third straight weekend on the road, posting an 8-0 record in neutral site matchups so far this year. While this is the last tournament for Tech, opening weekend of ACC play is also on the road for the team, playing at Clemson on March 4-6. The Hokies won 26 games away from Tech Softball Park a season ago, with only nine losses.
 
EMMA(S) TO WATCH
 
Freshman Emma Lemley has been putting up solid numbers for Tech in the circle. She currently has a 0.94 ERA with 44 strikeouts in 22.1 innings pitched. The right-hander has given up only nine hits and three earned runs. Sophomore Emma Ritter had a good weekend at the Easton Bama Bash, finishing her five appearances with a .417 batting average and .750 slugging percentage. The outfielder posted five hits, including two triples, with an RBI.
 
CONSISTENT CAM
 
Second baseman Cameron Fagan has been one of the Hokies most consistent hitters, leading the team with 14 hits so far this season. During Tech's opening weekend in Florida, the sophomore had at least one hit in every game, including going 4-for-4 in the win over Michigan State. Last weekend in Tuscaloosa, Fagan recorded four hits, including two against No. 2 Alabama, as well as two in the win over Evansville (2/19), with two RBI.
 
UP NEXT
 
The Hokies have a busy week following the Carolina Classic, heading to North Carolina on Wednesday, March 2 for a doubleheader at Charlotte. Tech will then head to Clemson to take on the Tigers to open ACC play with a three-game series from March 4-6.
