BLACKSBURG – Rebecca Mammel was recognized as the ACC Women's Field Performer of the Week, the league announced Tuesday, Jan. 18.
The first-year Hokie opened her season with an impressive performance in the weight throw, delivering a heave of 22.15m (72' 8") that ranks No. 2 nationally. She finished first at the Virginia Tech Invitational, and now holds the second-best spot on the Hokies' all-time list.
Mammel is just one of four athletes in the country to throw further than 22 meters (72' 2") in the women's weight throw so far this season.
A transfer from Michigan State, Mammel's first competition with the Hokies shows there is much more to come from the veteran thrower.
