As the 2021 calendar year comes to a close, Virginia Tech Athletics will spend the month of December celebrating the Hokies' standout achievements from the past 12 months in a campaign called "Moments of Excellence."
The "Moments of Excellence" campaign will serve as a look back to the historic highlights and memorable accomplishments in Tech Athletics during 2021. Each varsity sport program will have an outstanding moment featured during December on the official Virginia Tech Athletics website and @HokieSports social media properties.
The volleyball program earned a historic victory against Wake Forest this fall serving as their Moment.

BLACKSBURG – The Virginia Tech volleyball team closed out the 2021 season with a win on Friday evening, defeating Wake Forest 25-21, 25-18, 22-25, 25-23. Marisa Cerchio also reached a career milestone in her last match as a Hokie, recording her 1,000th kill.
Cerchio becomes the 17th player in school history to reach the milestone, with the most recent Hokie being Kaity Smith from 2017-20. She reached kill No. 1,000 early in the third set to give the Hokies a 5-4 lead. The right-side hitter will end her Hokie career with 1,008 kills.
The Hokies took the first set 25-21 as Cerchio recorded four kills to lead the Hokies. Tech hit .300 in the first set, a match-high. Robinson also added four kills and hit .667, a team-high. Mosley recorded five digs in the first set while Brie Postema added 12 assists.
The second set was all Hokies as they jumped out to an 8-7 advantage and did not relinquish the lead, jumping out to a 16-10 advantage at one point. The Hokies also hit well in the second set, recording a .286 hitting percentage, as Cerchio hit .600 in the second set. The Tech block also got hot in the second, with the Hokies recording four total.
Wake Forest bounced back in the third, taking a tight set 25-22. The Demon Deacons had their best offensive set in the third, recording a .222 hitting percentage. Chloe Wilson led the way with five kills. Cerchio continued to impress recording five kills in the third set.
The Hokies clinched the match with a 25-23 win in the fourth set, improving to 12-18 and 3-15 in ACC play. Wake Forest falls to 15-14, 6-12 in the ACC. Cerchio finished her final match as a Hokie with 21 kills, beating her previous career-high of 18 kills.
Powell also helped the Hokie offense with 10 kills and Robinson hit .389 over the four sets with seven kills. Freshman Elayna Dupreyhit a team-high .455 with five kills. Defensively, Postema finished with 15 digs and Mosley added 14. Postema also recorded 46 assists, one shy of her season-high. On the block, Hughes posted two solo blocks, while Cerchio and Robinson had three block assists.
Virginia Tech finished the match hitting .235 on the day, compared to .160 by the Demon Deacons. The two teams were even on the block, both posting eight total. The Hokies finish the 2021 season winning their last two of three matches.
