LEESBURG, FLA. – The Virginia Tech softball team is set to open its 2022 campaign in Leesburg, Fla., playing a tough schedule at the Northern Lights/Southern Nights Invitational from Feb. 11-13. The Hokies will take on Wisconsin, Northwestern, Michigan State, Missouri and Kentucky in the inaugural event.
Tech will open the 2022 season on Friday, Feb. 11, facing Big Ten opponents Wisconsin at 3 p.m. and Northwestern at 6 p.m. The Hokies then face Michigan State and Missouri on Saturday, followed by a matchup with another 2021 Super Regional team in Kentucky at 10 a.m. on Sunday.
The Hokies are coming off a memorable and historic 2021 season, culminating in the program's second ever appearance in the NCAA Super Regionals. The NFCA Mid-Atlantic Staff of the Year returns the majority of their starting lineup, including All-American Keely Rochard, from the 2021 squad and adds a talented group of newcomers set to make an impact during the 2021-22 season.
