BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech football prepares for Saturday's primetime matchup with No. 14 Notre Dame on ACC Network, marking the teams' fourth all-time matchup and the second meeting at Lane Stadium. The Hokies are 1-2 against the Fighting Irish since the series began in 2016.

It was not the Hokies' night the first time Notre Dame visited Blacksburg. Despite a close 17-16 score at halftime in favor of the visitors, the Irish broke the game open in the second half to stay undefeated at that point in their season. QB Ryan Willis threw for 309 yards and two touchdowns, while the defense totaled 6.0 TFL, including a 0.5 TFL from DE TyJuan Garbutt.
Nov. 2, 2019 – No. 16 Notre Dame 21, Virginia Tech 20
The most recent meeting between the teams was a nail-biter but the Hokies ultimately fell to the Irish in their second trip to South Bend. Tech nearly pulled off the road upset of then No. 16 Notre Dame. DB Divine Deablo returned a fumble for a 98-yard touchdown, the longest defensive touchdown under head coach Justin Fuente. Tech held a 20-14 lead until late in the fourth quarter before Irish QB Ian Book led his squad on the game-winning 18-play, 87-yard TD drive for the comeback win.
