NOTES ON THE PANTHERS

  • Pitt (9-4-1, 4-2-1 ACC) enters the match following a 5-1 victory over UMass on Monday. In their last ACC clash, the Panthers drew Virginia, 2-2, on the road. Leading the goal tally for Pitt is midfielder Rodrigo Almeida, while Jasper Löeffelsend is tied with Tech's Kyle McDowell for the most assists in the ACC with seven.

NOTES ON THE HOKIES

  • Virginia Tech (9-3-3, 3-3-1 ACC) found itself in unfamiliar territory on Sunday night after falling 2-0 to North Carolina. The result was the Hokies' first loss at home and their first time being shutout at Thompson Field this season. However, with only three losses through 15 games, Tech has not lost back-to-back fixture yet in the 2021 season.
  • Captain Sivert Haugli has played every minute of the 2021 campaign -- 1421 minutes. With 68 career starts in 68 career appearances, the last time the Hokies were on the pitch without Haugli was vs. UNC on Friday, Apr. 2, 2021.
  • Should Virginia Tech win on Friday, it would mark the second most ACC wins in one season for the Hokies. Due to unusual scheduling in 2020-21, Tech played 12 ACC fixtures in 2020-21, earning five wins. Four wins would be the most in any eight-game ACC regular season slate. The result would also mark the fourth time that the Hokies have finished .500 or better in ACC play, other times being: 2004, 2007, and 2020.
