Miami prevails in straight sets against Hokies

BLACKSBURG – Miami's Angela Grieve totaled 18 kills while attacking a match-best .341 to guide the Hurricanes to a 3-0 sweep over Virginia Tech Sunday afternoon inside Cassell Coliseum. The Hokies drop to 9-13 overall and 0-10 in the ACC. The Hurricanes improve to 17-3, 8-2 in the ACC.

Cera Powell led the Tech offense with her 10 kills on 33 swings. It was her eighth double-figure outing of the season in kills and first since recording 10 at Syracuse on Oct. 3. Michelle Bennett charted a season-high 10 digs to pace the Hokies' defense.

Miami outhit Tech, .211-.019, and manufactured a 40-25 edge in kills. The Hokies did secure a 5-4 advantage in blocks.

Tech will be in Charlottesville next Friday, Oct. 29 for the Commonwealth Clash presented by Smithfield. The Clash is currently 1-0 in favor of the Hokies after men's soccer secured a 2-1 double overtime victory on Sept. 17 against the Cavaliers.
