Hokies suffer setback against Georgia Tech

BLACKSBURG – The Virginia Tech volleyball team suffered its second ACC loss on Sunday, falling to No. 18 Georgia Tech 3-0. The Yellow Jackets took the first set 25-17, second set 25-15 and third 25-13.
 
Virginia Tech jumped out to a 9-3 lead early in the first set before Georgia Tech rallied to regain the lead at 15-14. From there, the Yellow Jackets held onto the lead for the set win. The second and third sets were all Georgia Tech, as the team was led by Mariana Brambilla, who finished her match with 16 kills.
 
Julia Bergmann and Biana Bertolino also had solid outings for the Yellow Jackets, recording 13 and 11 kills, respectively. Bertolino added three blocks. Matti McKissock was the assist leader, tallying a match-high 41 assists. Defensively, Paola Pimentel had 12 digs.
 
For Virginia Tech, Angel Robinson hit .444 on the day with four kills. Griere Hughes added 10 kills and Marisa Cerchio had three. Brie Postema ended her match with 14 assists and two aces, Mara Perry added an ace as well. Mary Page had a good match in the back row, recording eight digs.
 
The Hokies are back in action next Friday, making the trip north to take on Boston College on Friday, Oct. 1 at 8 p.m., followed by a Sunday match vs. Syracuse at 1 p.m.Gallery: (9-26-2021) VB: Georgia Tech Match
