JOHNS ISLAND, S.C. — Heavy rain, with more forecasted Tuesday, has prompted tournament officials to cancel the Battle at Briar's Creek.

The 54-hole event was scheduled for Monday and Tuesday at the Golf Club at Briar's Creek, however, torrential downpours halted play Monday with most teams needing three holes to finish their first round.

None of the 14 teams were under par when the tournament was stopped due to unplayable course conditions. Jacksonville led the field at 1-over, seven shots ahead of second-place East Carolina.

Led by Drew Brockwell and Kobe Valociek at 2-over, Virginia Tech was tied for eighth at 12-over.

The Hokies return to competition next week at the Old Town Club Collegiate hosted by Wake Forest. The two-day event gets underway Monday from Old Town Club in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
