Hokies’ rookies shine in NFL Preseason Week 2

Friday, Aug. 27

Pittsburgh at Carolina – 7:30 p.m. ET
Edmunds brothers, Terrell and Trey, and the Steelers are 3-0 after another preseason win last week. Terrell started at strong safety and finished the game with a tackle for loss while Trey hauled in a 19-yard reception, his fourth catch in three games. Panthers' K Joey Slye scored the team's only points after he connected on a 41-yard field goal in last week's loss to the Ravens.

Minnesota at Kansas City – 8 p.m. ET – NFL Network
T Christian Darrisaw is not expected to play in the Vikings' preseason finale as he continues to recover from a surgical procedure and hopes to be ready to go for Week 1. The first-round pick has yet to make his debut for Minnesota.

Saturday, Aug. 28

Green Bay at Buffalo – 1 p.m. ET – NFL Network
For the second straight week, Packers' T Yosh Nijman saw plenty of action after starting at left tackle and playing 74 percent of the team's offensive snaps. After playing the entire game in Week 1 of the preseason, Nijman could potentially face off with former teammate and Bills' LB Tremaine Edmunds, who hasn't played this preseason, when the teams clash on national television Saturday afternoon.

Baltimore at Washington – 6 p.m. ET
Ravens' S Chuck Clark is coming off an impressive start in which he forced a fumble and made three tackles in Baltimore's win over Carolina as he and the Ravens visit CB Kendall Fuller, DT Tim Settle, TE Logan Thomas. Thomas recorded a 28-yard reception on a catch-and-run play in Washington's win over Cincinnati while Settle saw reserve action on the defensive line and Fuller did not play.

Chicago at Tennessee – 7 p.m. ET – NFL Network
2021 sixth-round pick RB Khalil Herbert continues to impress in his rookie preseason as Tech's leading rusher from a year ago scored his first NFL touchdown on a 13-yard rush in the Bears' second preseason game.

Former Hokies' and current Bears' teammate K Brian Johnson also had another solid game as he connected on a 54-yard field goal on the team's only attempt. Herbert and Johnson could see a familiar face as the Bears take on CB Caleb Farley and the Titans, who made his NFL preseason debut in Tennessee's win over Tampa Bay a week ago.

Tampa Bay at Houston – 8 p.m. ET
Texans' QB Tyrod Taylor was limited once again in Week 2 of the preseason after playing in just one drive in Week 1. Taylor led the Texans for three series, engineering a touchdown on Houston's first drive. Taylor will be on the opposite sideline of Tampa Bay coaches Bruce Arians, Cody Grimm and Nic Rapone, who are all Tech alums.

L.A. Rams at Denver – 9:05 p.m. ET
After not seeing action in the Broncos' first preseason game, CB Kyle Fuller started Denver's 30-3 win over Seattle Saturday, but was limited to just 16 percent of the team's defensive plays. Fuller and the Broncos look to finish the preseason undefeated against the winless Rams.

L.A. Chargers at Seattle – 10 p.m. ET – NFL Network
Like Fuller, Chargers' CB Brandon Facyson made his 2021 preseason debut as he started against the 49ers and made two tackles last week. On the opposite defense, Seahawks' DT Jarrod Hewitt recorded his first sack as a pro in Week 2.

T Duane Brown is unlikely to see action after not practicing.

Sunday, Aug. 29

Miami at Cincinnati – 4 p.m. ET – CBS
After making two grabs in his first preseason game of the year, Dolphins' WR Isaiah Ford did not play in the team's win over Atlanta in Preseason Week 2. Ford can cap a training camp that's seen him make a number of outstanding catches with a performance against the Bengals on national television.

Cleveland at Atlanta – 8 p.m. ET – NBC
G Wyatt Teller has yet to play a snap in the preseason and will have his last opportunity to on Sunday Night Football against the Falcons. The Virginia native was the second-highest rated offensive lineman following the 2020 season according to Pro Football Focus.
