Hokies prepare to face Cavaliers in Commonwealth Clash series

BLACKSBURG – Coming off its shutout win against ETSU, Virginia Tech baseball is looking towards its three-game series against in-state rival Virginia at English Field at Atlantic Union Bank Park with all three games being broadcast on ACC Network.

The Hokies (22-15, 15-12 ACC) and Cavaliers (20-19, 11-16) will meet for the first time since May 18, 2019. Virginia leads the all-time series 31-13 and are 13-9 in Blacksburg.

Tech is looking to secure a win for the Commonwealth Clash against the Cavaliers.

ON THE CALL

The matchup on Tuesday will be broadcast on ACC Network  with Mike Monaco (play-by-play) and Adam Greenburg (analyst) on the call, while Bryant Johnson will broadcast on Virginia Tech Sports Network.

LAST TIME OUT

Tech is coming off a big win against nonconference opponent ETSU on Tuesday. The Hokies scored 12 runs on 11 hits. Kevin Madden brought in 4 runs for Tech and freshman Griffin Green got his second win of the season. Gavin Cross and Madden both had three hits for the Hokies and the Tech pitching staff did not allow a walk.

PLAYER TO WATCH

Gavin Cross has continued his impressive run for the Hokies this season. He was recently ranked No. 4 on the Baseball America Freshman of the Year Watchlist. The Bristol, Tennessee native currently has 59 hits and 33 RBIs this season and is leading the ACC in batting average (.404).
