Labovitz nets game winner in 1-0 win over Notre Dame

The Virginia Tech men' soccer team picked up their second win of the season with a 1-0 victory against Notre Dame Monday afternoon, earning a much-needed three points in ACC play .

Tech (2-1-2, 2-1-2) was on their heels for the opening 30 minutes of play as Notre Dame (3-3-0,2-2-0) held the Hokies to the midfield and limited their chances. The 14th minute saw the Fighting Irish with two opportunities to take an early lead, but a save by Mathijs Swaneveld and a shot just wide of the near post kept the game knotted at 0-0.

The Hokies began to find a rhythm in the final 15 minutes of the opening frame, earning a corner kick and taking all five of their first half shots during the stretch.

Tech came out of the break on the front foot as they scored the game's lone goal in the 52nd minute as Kyle McDowell's cross into the box found Jacob Labovitz at the penalty mark. Labovitz took one touch, fired a shot into the back of the net and the Hokies never looked back.

The Hokies kept up the pressure throughout the second half as they looked to extend their lead, but timely saves and shots just off their mark saw the game end 1-0.
