Hokies host No. 5 Cavaliers in home opener on ACC Network

BLACKSBURG – The Virginia Tech men's soccer team will make their home debut on Wednesday, October 14 when they face the fifth-ranked Virginia Cavaliers in an ACC contest.

Coverage Details

The Hokies look to claim their first points in league play after falling to No. 2 Pittsburgh 4-2 Saturday night. In the 14th minute Kristo Stricker found the net off a long throw in. Kyle McDowell launched the ball towards the box, where Jacob Labovitz flicked it on and found the forward. Tech closed the lead to one in the 86th when Kahlil Dover's through ball found Strickler in the box.
 
Pitt would extend their lead back two, two minutes later to end the Hokies chance of winning their ACC season opener.
 
The Cavaliers (1-0)
Virginia comes to Blacksburg off a win after defeating Louisville 2-1 in 20T
 
It was a scoreless first half for the Cavaliers, but goals by Nathaniel Crofts (53rd) and Phillip Horton (109th) saw Virginia walk away with the victory.
 
Horton and Phillips each lead the Cavaliers with one goal, as Joan Gilbert and Isaiah Byrd each have one assist.
 
Series History
The Hokies have struggled historically against the Cavaliers as the all-time record currently sits at 2-32-5. Tech has however played Virginia close over the last five years. The Hokies are 0-3-2 during that stretch with each loss being decided by one goal.
 
On the Horizon
The Hokies will once again return to Thompson Field on Sunday, October 18 as they face Notre Dame.  Kickoff is set for 11 a.m. on the ACC Network Extra.
 
Tech is 3-6-1 all-time against the Fighting Irish with the last three matches all being wins for the Hokies.
