CHARLOTTE – The 22nd-ranked Virginia Tech lacrosse team returns to the field on Sunday, March 8 for a clash with third-ranked Syracuse in a neutral site contest part of the Crown Classic in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Tech is carrying a program-best six-game winning streak into the contest, following resounding wins over; Liberty, Radford, Elon, Cincinnati, Louisville and William & Mary.

A major part of the success has been the play on goalie Angie Benson and her defensive line in front of her who have allowed a national-best 6.00 goals against per game. Benson has made 63 saves for a save percentage of .606.

The Hokies also boast two of the nation's top four scorers in freshman midfielder Kayla Frank (43) and junior Tewaaraton Award nominee Paige Petty (40). Frank is the only player in D1 to score 20 goals and dish 20 assists.

THE ORANGE
Syracuse enters 6-1, winners of five straight including a 10-5 victory at No. 9 Maryland last Saturday afternoon. Attacker Emily Hawryschuk led the Orange with five goals in the game and the Orange defense forced 20 turnovers.
On the season, Hawryschuk leads the nation in goals with 35 and is supported by Megan Carney who has 29 points of her own this season with 11 assists.
In goal is Asa Goldstock who owns a 7.10 goals against average.
THE SERIES WITH SYRACUSE
The Hokies and Orange have met 11 times previously, with Syracuse winning on 10 occasions, including a tight 14-13 game last season in Syracuse. Paige Petty (five) and Taylor Caskey (two) led the Hokies on the offensive end and Emma Crooks corralled six draw controls in that contest. Morgan Berman made six saves.
Tech's lone win in the series came in 2018, a two-overtime thriller that ended with Tristan McGinley's game-winner to finish 15-14. Petty and Caskey each scored five and two goals respectively in that contest as well.
