Tech ready for 2020 ACC Men’s Swimming & Diving Championships

BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech's swimmers are ready to hit the pool for the 2020 ACC Men's Swimming and Diving Championships beginning Wednesday, Feb. 26 at the Greensboro Aquatic Center in Greensboro, North Carolina.

THE HOKIES

  • The Hokies enter the week ranked 19th in the CSCAA TYR Top-25 standings.
  • Of the 21 Hokies on the ACC roster, 15 are either freshmen or sophomores. However, all eight sophomores competed at the 2019 ACC Championships.
  • Representing the Hokies this week are individual Virginia Tech record holders:
    • Lane Stone – 200 free, 500 free, 1000 free and 1650 free
    • Antani Ivanov – 100 fly, 200 fly
  • Stone and Ivanov are also members of the record holding 800 free relay team along with sophomore Blake Manoff.
    • Stone also holds the record as part of the 400 free relay with junior Thomas Hallock.
    • Hallock and sophomore Henry Claesson are members of the 200 free relay record.
  • Stone and Ivanov are also looking to capitalize on their bronze medal finishes from 2019 in the 500 free and 200 fly, respectively.
    • They, along with Manoff, also claimed bronze in the 800 free relay.
  • Manoff is having a breakout sophomore season for the Hokies, having already hit B cuts in the 200 free, 100 back, 100 fly and 200 fly. Additionally he holds the fastest time for the Tech in all four events this season.
  • Among those competing this week are several top-five Virginia Tech individual time holders across 17 events, including:
    • Hallock: 50 free, 100 free
    • Sam Tornqvist: 100 back, 200 back, 200 IM, 400 IM
    • Manoff: 200 free, 100 fly, 200 fly
    • Stone: 200 free, 500 free, 1000 free, 1650 free
    • Filippo Dal Maso: 500 free, 1000 free, 1650 free
    • Ivanov: 100 fly, 200 fly, 500 free
    • Forest Webb: 50 back
  • Tech has recorded 19 NCAA provisional times already this season with
    • Hallock: 50 free, 100 free
    • Manoff: 200 free, 100 back, 100 fly, 200 fly
    • Stone: 200 free
    • Dal Maso: 500 free, 1650 free, 400 IM
    • Ivanov: 500 free
    • Brennen Doss: 1650 free
    • Tornqvist: 100 back, 200 back, 200 IM
    • Webb: 100 back, 200 back
    • AJ Pouch: 200 breast
  • Several Hokies also hold top-10 times within the ACC this season:
    • Manoff: 200 free, 100 back, 100 fly, 200 fly
    • Dal Maso: 1650 free, 400 IM
    • Tornqvist: 100 back, 200 back, 200 IM
    • Pouch: 200 breast
    • Ivanov: 100 fly, 200 fly

 
THE FIELD
NC State enters as the top-ranked team in the conference at No. 5 in the CSCAA standings. Louisville is ninth while Florida State and Virginia are 14th and 15th, respectively. Notre Dame comes in at 18th followed by the Hokies at 19th. Georgia Tech is just outside the Top-25 and receiving votes.
